  The State of Israel was founded in 1948, not 1947.
  Palestine was not even a country from 1949 to 1967 - the West Bank was ruled by Jordan and the Gaza Strip was ruled by Egypt during that time. Also, the 1947 UN partition plan was not actually implemented because the Arab representatives did not accept it - the Jews in the Mandate were completely willing to go through with it, even though both sides would have liked to have all the land. In fact, since its founding, Israel has constantly given up land in an attempt to pacify its Arab neighbors - when they captured the Sinai, they gave it up almost immediately. They also gave up the entire Gaza Strip during Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's administration after the Arabs insisted they withdraw their entire military presence from there - a move which has only cost Israel2 likes
